Highlighting Community Leadership in Information Technology

Swedish Covenant Hospital (SCH) was one of only 42 hospitals nationwide to be designated by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) as a Stage 6 hospital; two competing Chicago hospitals were named Stage 6 and Stage 7. The Ritz Communications team recognized that this was an opportunity for SCH to position the hospital as a leader in information technology. The HIMSS Annual Global Health Conference & Exhibition, being held in Chicago, provided the backdrop to showcase the hospital locally and among a targeted trade audience.

Ritz brought together executives at SCH and HIMSS to discuss mutually beneficial PR outreach. Based on this productive collaboration, we coordinated a joint press briefing and implemented an on-site tour – Mock 6: EMR in Action – for media attending the HIMSS annual conference.

The award-winning campaign delivered on-point results, including:

  • Attendance of prominent trade reporters
  • Key features on trade media websites which posted a photo gallery and video of the tour and called SCH a “role model for healthcare IT adoption”
  • Features in local media, including the Chicago Sun-Times and NBC-5, that showcased SCH as a local hospital setting a national example for healthcare IT adoption
  • Subsequent media and healthcare industry opportunities for SCH as a result of established relationships with media and HIMSS executives
